The Safety Reward & Recognition Program out at our Preston Tram Workshops Redevelopment Project is about encouraging safety behaviours and recognising individual efforts.
Labourer Richard Vincec and Electrician Oliver Molloy were the two worthy nominated candidates for March 2015, with Oliver declared the winner.
On Tuesday, 3 March 2015, Oliver was undertaking a routine inspection of the electrical distribution board within the Welding Bay of the Body Shop. As he opened the mains board, he noticed that the neutral conductor connection lug to the bus bar glowing red hot.
On closer inspection it became evident that prior to Coleman Rail taking over the site, the connection lug had been incorrectly and inadequately terminated. The board was immediately isolated and repairs were conducted in securing the lug. At the time of incident the board was operating at normal load and had the potential to cause electrocution or fire.
